We are always on the lookout for weird and wacky wedding related news.  Following are some of what we've heard and seen...

From NBC’s Today Show, January 4, 2012 - It takes a whole lot of thought, a whole lot of fabric and a whole lot of work to create a wedding dress. Perhaps that helps to explain why so many people are so torn up about what recently took place outside a bridal shop that was going out of business.  Last Friday, onlookers were horrified to see bridal and formal gowns that cost thousands of dollars being spray-painted and thrown into a Dumpster outside the Priscilla of Boston boutique in Edina, Minn. The dresses being painted included a $6,000 Vera Wang creation and a number of other high-dollar gowns.  “It was just terrible. It was a terrible sight,” Bessie Giannakakis of Bessie’s Boutique in Edina told KARE-TV, an NBC affiliate in Minneapolis-St. Paul. “You would never in your life think, ‘Let’s spray-paint a dress.’ Give it to somebody ... who doesn’t have the money.”  The owner of Priscilla of Boston, announced last year that it would shutter all of its Priscilla of Boston locations. After 65 years in business, the chain closed on Friday, Dec. 30.  What rattled eye witnesses in Minnesota was the way the Edina boutique opted to dispose of its unsold merchandise. Local residents and small business owners flocked to the Dumpster in a last-ditch effort to salvage what they could. A woman named Sheila Roth snapped photos and shared them with local television stations.   KARE-TV contacted Priscilla of Boston and received this statement in response:  “Priscilla of Boston has always donated quality bridal gowns to a variety of charitable causes. We do not, however, donate unsaleable dresses that are damaged, soiled or in otherwise poor condition.”   Women who spoke with KARE-TV reported that many of the dresses were in excellent condition, and some were still in boxes.   “It’s such a shame that perfectly wearable gowns were destroyed,” Recycled Bride founder Tracy DiNunzio told TODAY.com. Recycled Bride is a site that allows people to buy and sell gently used wedding dresses and other wedding items.   “When you think of all the resources that go into producing these dresses, and how many ways they could benefit someone, it’s quite sad,” DiNunzio continued. “Why didn’t they donate them too Brides Against Breast Cancer or Wish Upon a Wedding? So wasteful!”

From The New York Times November 3, 2011 -  Of all the many things that make up a wedding, few are more important than the photographs.   Long after the last of the cake has grown stale and the tossed bouquet has wilted, the photos endure, stirring memories and providing vivid proof that the day of one’s dreams took place.  So it is not particularly surprising that one groom, disappointed with his wedding photos, decided to sue. The photographers had missed the last dance and the bouquet toss, the groom, Todd J. Remis of Manhattan, said.  But what is striking, said the studio that took the pictures, is that Mr. Remis’s wedding took place in 2003 and he waited six years to sue. And not only has Mr. Remis demanded to be repaid the $4,100 cost of the photography, he also wants $48,000 to recreate the entire wedding and fly the principals to New York so the celebration can be re-shot by another photographer. Re-enacting the wedding may pose a particular challenge, the studio pointed out, because the couple divorced and the bride is believed to have moved back to her native Latvia.

From ABC News October 25, 2011 -  Gus and Jennifer Luna had an unforgettable wedding day after their outdoor nuptials were crashed by a monster sandstorm.  The pair were gathered at the outdoor venue in Florence, Ariz., on Sept. 10, and were just starting their vows. Suddenly, a strong gust of wind blew in. Followed by another. And another.“I looked up and I saw this big wall of dust coming", the groom told the local ABC News affiliate.  In a video of the ceremony posted on YouTube the couple can be seen being buffeted by the high winds and dust. The increasing force of the gusts tossed the bride’s veil around her head.  The sandstorm is known as a “haboob,” which comes from the Arabic word for “wind.”  Ironically, the nuptials included a sand ceremony — in which a couple pour two separate bottles of sand into one bottle to symbolize the union of two lives and families.  The pair had just started to perform that portion of the ceremony when the wind intensified, darkening the surroundings with dust. Within seconds, visibility was nearly totally obscured, and the two were being blinded by the airborne grit.  The judge quickly completed the ceremony, pronounced the pair husband and wife, and allowed them to exchange a brief kiss. “You see the trees swaying in the back and you see nothing after a while. I was thinking ‘let’s get it over with.’ God. We’re eating a mouthful of dirt and everything,” Gus Luna recalled.  The bride has taken it all in stride.  “At first, I was a little upset about it, but at the same time, what are you going to do? It’s the weather,” she said.

From the Associated Press news service, September 1, 2011 - A judge sentenced 28-year-old Angela Davito on Thursday to six months of probation and four hours of community service for her conviction on a charge of attempted aggravated assault.  Police say officers had to restrain Davito on March 20 after she became disorderly at the suburban Phoenix home where her wedding reception was held.   Officers responding to a call found a large brawl in the backyard of the home and told everyone to stop fighting. But the commotion continued, and officers pepper-sprayed the crowd.  The crowd got angry and aggressive toward the officers, and police say Davito charged a partygoer and kicked an officer.
